Our work, by address

Window treatments for New York’s most demanding buildings

NYC Drapery & Shades is the window-treatment practice of Rafael Interiors, a third-generation family business in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. We measure, fabricate and install custom drapery, Roman and roller shades and motorized systems for homeowners, interior designers, architects, developers and hospitality teams.

The properties below include landmark towers, Park and Fifth Avenue cooperatives, downtown lofts, hotels and event venues.

The addresses here are a selection. The larger part of our work is in homes we keep private.

Discretion

Private Clients. Quiet Work.

The properties on this page are a selection: the addresses our clients and partners are comfortable seeing in print. Many of our most meaningful commissions are in private homes whose owners prefer them unnamed, and we keep it that way.

Discretion has been part of how we work since 1987 — from the first measure to the last installation visit.

Experience

Working inside New York buildings

Measured in placeEvery opening is measured by our installer, accounting for out-of-square walls, deep reveals, radiators and ceiling pockets.
Made in our workroomDrapery and Roman shades are cut and sewn in our own Manhattan workroom, so sizing and finishing are controlled end to end.
Building paperwork handledCertificates of insurance and scope documents go to the managing agent before we arrive.
Freight and accessInstallations are scheduled around service elevators, building hours and doormen — including skylights, curved walls and double-height windows.
MotorizationLutron, Somfy and Hunter Douglas PowerView systems, programmed and tested before we leave.
Designer coordinationWe work directly with designers, architects and general contractors, from specification to final dressing.

Questions

Working in your building

Do you work in co-ops and condominiums with strict alteration rules?

Yes. We provide certificates of insurance and scope documents to the managing agent, and schedule measuring and installation to the building's rules and service-elevator hours.

Can you work from my designer's or architect's specification?

Yes. Much of our work is fabricated to designer and architect specifications, including client-supplied fabric and hardware.

Why isn't every project listed?

Many of our clients prefer their homes to stay private. The properties shown are a selection we are able to reference; private residences are identified by building only, never by owner or apartment.

Consultation

Planning windows in a New York building?

Tell us the address and the rooms. We’ll advise on what the building allows and what the windows need.
