Designer Window Treatments — Bespoke Fabrication for New York City's Design Community
Where Design Vision Meets Master Craftsmanship
The relationship between an interior designer and their workroom is one of the most consequential partnerships in the design process. When the window treatments are right — when every pleat falls with intention, when the fabric responds to the architecture, when the hardware disappears into the design — the entire room achieves a level of completion that nothing else can provide.
Rafael Interiors exists to ensure that the window treatments in your projects never fall short. From our Chelsea atelier at 46 West 21st Street, we have served New York City's interior design community for three generations, providing bespoke drapery, luxury curtains, motorized shades, and complete window treatment fabrication with the precision and accountability that serious design work demands.
We are not a catalog company. Every commission we accept is treated as a unique collaboration between our artisans and the designer who conceived it. This is why New York City's most respected interior designers — from established firms on the Upper East Side to emerging studios in SoHo and Tribeca — trust Rafael Interiors with their most important projects.
Comprehensive Window Treatment Services for Designers
Custom drapery fabrication is the foundation of our practice. We produce every pleat style — pinch, Euro, goblet, ripplefold, inverted box pleat — with hand-set construction. Valances, cornices, swags, jabots, and pelmets are available for projects requiring formal architectural framing.
Motorized shading systems from Lutron, Somfy, and Hunter Douglas bring intelligent automation to your designs. We specify, program, and install roller shades, motorized Roman shades, and automated drapery tracks.
Roman shades are fabricated in flat, cascading, Aventura, double, and unconstructed styles. Sheers, layered curtain compositions, and under-treatments round out our capabilities.
Every service includes consultation, technical measurement, fabrication, lining and interlining, hardware specification, and installation — managed as a unified workflow under a single point of accountability.
A Collaborative Process Built for the Design Trade
Our process begins with a technical site assessment. Our master installer captures precise window measurements and documents architectural conditions. This information is shared with the designer in a detailed site report.
The design development phase unfolds in close collaboration. We review fabric selections, discuss pleat and header styles, confirm lining requirements, and select hardware. For designers who source their own fabrics, we provide expert COM fabrication with guidance on yardage calculations and pattern alignment.
Fabrication is performed entirely in our Manhattan workroom. We provide progress updates and accommodate the change orders inherent to complex residential projects. Every treatment undergoes final quality inspection before installation.
Installation is scheduled in coordination with your project timeline. Our in-house team handles all mounting, dressing, and motorization programming.
An Unrivaled Fabric Library and Customization Atelier
Our Chelsea showroom houses one of Manhattan's most comprehensive fabric libraries curated for window treatment applications. We maintain extensive in-stock selections from Romo, Zinc, Mark Alexander, Kravet, Lee Jofa, Clarke & Clarke, Fabricut, and JF Fabrics.
Hardware is curated with equal rigor. We specify architectural-grade drapery hardware from Vesta and Morgik in finishes spanning polished brass and oil-rubbed bronze to matte black and custom lacquer.
From Fabrication to Flawless Installation
Each commission is assigned to a dedicated craftsperson who oversees the project from pattern cutting through final pressing. This model ensures every seam is straight, every pleat consistent, every pattern matched with couture precision.
We do not subcontract installation under any circumstances. Our installers understand luxury residential expectations, coordinate with building management, and carry full insurance.
Partnering with Designers Across the NYC Metropolitan Region
Our collaborations span the full breadth of the New York metropolitan area. We work with designers on projects throughout Manhattan — the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Tribeca, SoHo, the West Village, Gramercy, Chelsea, Midtown, and the Financial District.
Beyond Manhattan, we serve projects in Westchester County, Greenwich and Darien in Connecticut, the Hamptons, and Northern New Jersey communities including Alpine, Englewood Cliffs, Saddle River, and Short Hills.
